When looking for an outfitter, be sure to ask them a lot of questions. Look into how long they've been in business under their current management. Inquire about their guides' accreditation and the public authority that oversees their outfitter's license and training processes. You'll know you're working with such a qualified outfitter if you see this.
Wearing a life jacket, however, does not guarantee that it will save your life. It has to be worn properly. All buckles must be fastened, and the jacket should fit perfectly around your body. Has your jacket always been fitted by a competent advisor? This guarantees a precise fit.
No matter what level of rafting you're doing, always wear a helmet. You wouldn't let your kids ride their bikes or rollerblade without a helmet, so why would you go whitewater rafting without one? It's only common sense.
Before you book a fishing trip, make sure the outfitter has gear for you. If they don't have what you need, ask them if they can get it or point you in the right direction.
The paddle held out in front is used for quick movements, while the paddle held next to your side guides the raft around rocks and other obstacles. The fore-and-aft position of the paddle is less effective for steering than a side-to-side position.
One of the most important things that you should remember before embarking on a whitewater rafting trip is to always remain in your boat. This may sound obvious to many people, but it's amazing how easy it is to get distracted by all the excitement around you on your river adventure.
Rafting is a swimming technique used as a training exercise to improve the body's streamlined position. It is also known as pulling and simultaneously pushing off the bottom of the pool, using both hands and feet together. This technique helps swimmers train their bodies so they can swim faster with less effort.
High-siding occurs when the boat turns sharply sideways and the water comes over the side of the boat. While high-siding is not a catastrophic event, it can quickly cause water to flood into the boat.
Before you board the boat, make sure you have your life jacket on and that you've completed all of the safety instructions. If any of these instructions are unclear, ask one of the guides or an experienced kayaker for assistance. Make sure to keep up with the group at all times. The guides will be leading us downriver and they will know where to go, we must stay close together.
